Alta Foundations

Wiley Supports Every Student

College-level gateway math and statistics courses often have high failure rates, largely because many new college students lack the foundational math skills they need for future coursework. These critical courses are often part of the reason why students fall behind or drop out.

At Wiley, we’re committed to leveling these roadblocks in math and statistics by providing the best affordable, adaptive technology to put achievement within reach for all students, regardless of their starting point. With Knewton Alta’s Foundations of Mathematics and Foundations of Math Self-Study courses, Wiley is able to provide your students with the foundational skills they need to succeed. Explore the options below to get this resource at no cost to your students.

We believe technology has the potential to transform what’s possible in education.

As part of Wiley’s commitment to helping students thrive, we provide two types of foundational course support.*

Alta Foundations for instructors

1. For institutions that adopt Knewton Alta for developmental and gateway math or statistics courses

If your institution adopts Knewton Alta for a gateway math or statistics course (College Algebra, Precalculus, Algebra and Trigonometry, Trigonometry, Quantitative Reasoning, Survey of Math, or Introductory Statistics), your institution will also have free access to the Alta Foundations of Math course. The course can be used for prerequisite or corequisite courses, but also as a bootcamp for any students in need of extra help. We will partner with institutions that take advantage of this offer to provide faculty training and courseware implementation support.

Foundations for students

2. For any learners who need additional foundational math support beyond class

A pre-built Knewton Alta Foundations of Math Self-Study Course is available at no charge. Learners can access this course directly and work at their own pace to master the material. This solution is designed to assist:

  • Learners who need a refresher as they prepare for a new math course or job after some time away from math.
  • Learners who are preparing to take a math placement exam.
  • Learners who may have failed a course and are looking for additional practice and help before retaking the course.

This initiative is part of Wiley’s overall commitment to supporting and enhancing educational equity. We believe that every student deserves the opportunity to engage in meaningful learning that will help him or her achieve individual goals and aspirations. Wiley is actively working to narrow the achievement gap for students who often do not have access to personalized support or instruction to help them master basic concepts in math and statistics. We look forward to partnering with you to deliver learning that lasts.

What is the Knewton Alta experience?

Knewton Alta is accessible, affordable and adaptive courseware, that provides students with the support they need at the moment they need it. The Alta learning experience goes beyond homework—it pairs practice with personalized learning that offers detailed answer explanations, integrated just-in-time instruction, and remediation of prerequisite skill gaps, all based on student performance.

All students start on the topic assigned by the instructor, and rather than relying on periodic diagnostics, the platform continuously monitors students’ performance and adapts in real-time to maximize their learning outcomes.

The data science behind the Alta technology is designed to ensure students can retain, recall, and apply knowledge in the future, and the gradebook gives instructors actionable data and insights into student performance and preparedness.

The end result? Learning that lasts.
